Monthly Musings: February 2021 Valentine's/Love

Happy Thursday Besties! I am so glad to welcome you to year two of Monthly Musings with Holly and Patty. We have such fun hosting this monthly link up and reading everyone's answers to our fun questions. This month we are talking all things Valentine's and love. Pour a coffee, a glass of wine or a hot cider and settle in for Monthly Musings for January.

1) How Do You Show Love? What is Your Love Language?

I think mine is acts of service, but those of you who know more about this tell me what you think. I will often make cookies or brownies to show someone I care. I will also take Hockey Guy for a Starbucks when he has had a busy week at school. Is that gifts or acts of service?

What's Up Wednesday--January 2021

January was ahem...interesting. The first few weeks of the month were unsettling especially if you live outside of the Nation's Capital. Hopefully things have calmed down and will stay that way. On this last Wednesday of the month I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday to talk what's been happening here in January.

What We're Eating This Week

This week is going to be a little touch and go dinner wise due to the fact that we are deep into the hockey season, even though our hockey season looks pretty different this year. If you are looking for meal ideas this week, with the exception of the taco meatballs, I may not be your gal this week.

Friday Favorites: Best Inauguration Fashion Then and Now

Happy Friday Besties! What a week. This is not a political post at all this is a total nod to all of the tradition and fashion of the Inaugurations of today and in the past. I have been blessed to be part of the Inaugurations in one way or another in 1989, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017. This is not something I take for granted and these are some of the most special moments of my life.

Today I am linking up with ErikaAndreaNarci to share the Best Inauguration fashion from this week and in years past. Let's leave politics at the door and just talk about these beautiful fashions that are now a part of history.

Inauguration Fashion 2021

Jill Biden

Where do I even start? I have long admired her fashion sense. For a woman of a certain age, actually a woman of any age, she really knows how to pull together an outfit. While she is a 60 something professor and grandma, she is the furthest from dowdy.  During the 2017 Inauguration, I was working at home and Running Daddy came in and said to me "I know you are working but I need to know what you think of Dr. Jill's outfit." The answer, always spot on. I am excited that the next four years mean four years of Dr. Jill's fashion sense.

Side note, I am totally here if she wants me to stop by the White House and pick up her hand me downs, we look like we are a similar size. No need to Thred Up your stuff Dr, Biden, I will take anything you don't want any more!

Ok, let's get to the fashion! Starting with the memorial event for those that died of COVID, this purple coat and dress is spot on. It has been reported that she chose this color as it is a mix of blue and red for a sign of unity.

Friday Favorites: Funny Doormat, Good Chardonnay, New Hallmark Movie, Best Joggers and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

Oh Besties, happy Friday. Whew, this week is continuing to challenge me and I did have a moment of COVID crying this week. Not a major meltdown, just moments of missing some people, but a Good night's sleep was finally had and that really helped reset the week. It's finally Friday and I am once again I am linking up with up with ErikaAndreaNarci to share the things that have brought me Joy this week I am definitely finding Joy in the occasional cup of fancy coffee these days.

1) Bravo Doormat

My sister gave me this doormat for Christmas. It is not only funny, it's very accurate. We put this at our porch door and not the front door, as most people we know come in through the porch. Well, when we are not in a pandemic and people actually come to our house, people come in through the porch door. Hoping that people will be able to come and see this funny doormat soon. I wonder if I can get a Hallmark one for the front door?

Comfort in the Chaos

This week, was a lot. The first week in January at my day job is always busy. We are finishing up the previous year and then also starting a new year and a new election cycle. Then, Wednesday happened.

This week was just heartbreaking for everyone in our country. As a person who has spent her entire adult life as part of the political process and has walked those halls and had US Capitol police officers who were my friends at our wedding, I am beyond words at what I saw and what we all saw.

When things are bad, there are always glimmers of comfort and before and after the incidents on Wednesday, here is where I found comfort this week.
