What's Up Wednesday-September 2022

Hey there Besties. Ooof this was a month and by that I mean not the Best month I have ever had. Since this is What's Up Wednesday and I am linking up with Sheaffer and Shay about all things September, I will get into all this below.

What We're Eating This Week

We are back in the full swing of hockey season so that means on Tuesday and Thursdays we need to have something mild and quick for dinner before hockey practice. I think I have a rhythm down already.

Monday-Meatball sub or leftover pasta bake with salad.

Tuesday-Airfryer chicken and vegetables

Wednesday-Pancakes (pumpkin and gluten free!), bacon and fruit

Thursday-Tortellini, gluten free ravioli and salad

Friday-Take out

What I'm Reminiscing About

Honestly, I am not really sure that I am reminiscing about anything at the moment.

What I'm Loving

I was able to stock up on the Trader Joe's fall products a few weeks ago and brought two of the pumpkin body butter. This is a great body butter and has just the right amount of pumpkin spice scent. This also makes a really Good gift. I have been loving this over the last few weeks.

We have also been loving the Trader Joe's gluten free pumpkin muffins. I stocked up on these too and try to make them every weekend. We really love adding white chips to the muffins. Trust me on this one, white chocolate with pumpkin is the way to go.

What We've Been Up To

Well Besties, Labor Day weekend we all tested positive for COVID. We are first-timers and we are all as vaccinated as we can be. We think we may have picked it up at a hockey tournament the end of August. Hockey Guy bounced back pretty quickly and after following the protocols went back to school. Running Daddy did ok, but had to drop out of competing in his second Iron Man which was super disappointing but there was no way he could do the race less than two weeks after having COVID.

I on the other hand, have had a pretty rough time with COVID due to my health challenges. I tested positive on September 5th and as of writing this post I just had my first negative test yesterday. The first few days of being sick my doctor prescribed paxlovid for me which has a 90% success rate of avoiding serious illness and hospitalization but has around a 5% chance of giving you a rebound case of COVID. Besties, guess where this is headed...

On top of having COVID, September was on tap to be probably the busiest work month of my year with a two-night event the third week of September and a big campaign deadline at the end of the month. This of course created a problem and a lot of anxiety because if you have COVID you cannot board a plane and I was basically working from home, in my bed. About a week in, I wrote up a back-up plan for my event that we actually had to enact because I ended up with a full-blown rebound case of COVID. I had new symptoms the second time around and even had some very weird gynecological things happen that my doctor told me actually can happen with COVID.

I am starting to slowly get Better but I get tired really easily. The other challenge is that I cannot take my major lupus meds until about 10 days after I get a negative test. That is not helping matters.

My team did a great job carrying out the plan and the event went off well but it did happen without me. One thing I really had to do while I have been sick for three weeks and counting is surrender control. That Besties, is something I am not Good at. COVID is going to do what is is going to do. All of my doctors agree that taking paxlovid was the right move and it did keep me out of the hospital, but two rounds of COVID have not really been fun. I have been sick almost the entire month of September.

I am just going to say this, my latest booster was in June so I have had four shots total and still got COVID. I was on track to get the new booster probably in October that is supposed to be Good for Omicrom and then I got COVID. Knowing how sick I have been with four vaccines and paxlovid, I cannot imagine how sick I would have been if I wasn't vaccinated or got COVID in early on when we didn't know as much about this virus as we do now. If you haven't gotten a booster or even one shot, I highly recommend that you do. Some people may not like this paragraph, but if I can convince even one person to make the time to get a vaccine then mission accomplished. I will get getting the latest booster as soon as I am able.

I haven't left the house much and certainly haven't left with house without a KN95 mask, so this post definitely reflects that. Heavy on the show watching and light on the fashion.

What I'm Dreading

I am totally dreading taking my next COVID test. I just want to get the second negative test tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me.

What I'm Working On

The main thing I am working on is getting well, getting rest and keeping in this mode of not feeling like I need to be in control all the time. Giving up control has really meant releasing some anxiety too.

What I'm Excited About

First, I am excited about to getting out of this house. The weather is starting to get really nice here and I am looking forward to enjoy all of the fun that fall brings around here.

I am also really excited about finally getting to a hockey game. I have not been to a hockey game all season. Crossing fingers I will be well enough and negative this weekend to watch hockey.

What I am Watching/Reading

Basically, the only thing I had the energy to read over this past month were the CDC guidelines for COVID. Interesting stuff, I know.

I have watched a lot of things. Thankfully the fall movies are on Hallmark now. I also caught Sweet Pecan Summer from 2021 last week and it was just what I needed. Wes Brown is one of my Hallmark Hunks.

Speaking of Wes Brown I also caught Christmas in Mississippi on Netflix. Not quite the quality of Hallmark, but I still really enjoyed it and it was perfect when I didn't feel well.

Even though Running Daddy and I saw Elvis in the theater, it hit streaming this past month. We told Hockey Guy he was going to love it but not only did he love it, he watched it four times. Even though we had seen it before, this movie still got both Running Daddy and I in the same place towards the end. As I said back in June, there is a million ways to play this role incorrectly and only one way to play this role right...Austin Butler did it right.

Hockey Guy got me into the Untold series on Netflix. We watched The Girlfriend That Didn't Exist and also the one on Caitlyn Jenner.

This past weekend, I slept twelve hours and woke up at 9:15 am on Saturday which is unheard of for me. It's been years since I slept that late. What was even Better was that when I turned the tv on How to Marry a Millionaire was just starting. It was light, it was funny and the costuming was to die for.

We are also getting ready to wrap up the seasons of both Southern Charm and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I have no idea what to make of the Kathy Hilton "meltdown". I think something happened but I also thing Rinna is one to exaggerate.  What do you think Beverly Hills watchers? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

What I'm Listening To

While I am typically a Bro Country girl, there are two new songs that the ladies have that are really speaking to me.

"What I Have" by Kelsea Ballerini just fits for me over the last few weeks. Check out the video here.

The other song that struck me is "Feel Like This" by Ingrid Andress. It just speaks to me in what my life was like before Running Daddy and how he really just is my safe space and he is unlike anyone I have ever met. Check it out here:

What I'm Wearing

This month is not going to be a fashion post Besties. I pretty much spent the last month in pajamas. Before I gave up hope that I was going to attend my event I did purchase the super cute outfit below. I am finally loving the skirt lengths lately. For several years I felt like the skirt lengths were either too short or a little too long and matronly on me. I think they are finally right below the knee which is is much Better option.

I love this skirt for a transition item for fall and think that I could even wear with boots in the winter. I also love a classic sweater set that I can wear with almost anything. I did size up in the cardigan only. I think this outfit pairs really well with my square toe Rothy's. If you want to try Rothy', use this link and you can save $20 on your first pair: https://share.rothys.com/x/Ys5VKH

What I'm Doing This Weekend

Hopefully, if I test negative I will finally be able to attend a hockey game. I cannot wait to see this team in action.

Since we are supposed to get a lot of rain from the hurricane, I am going to use this as an opportunity to start transitioning my wardrobe and start clearing out some clothing clutter. I also really need to continue to focus on getting some rest to ensure healing.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

I am really looking forward to putting September and COVID behind me. I am looking forward to spending time with friends that I have really been missing.

I am looking forward to all of the fall flavors and pumpkin spice everything.

I also am looking forward to all of the Halloween movies, the fall movies on Hallmark and the beginning of Countdown to Christmas.

Most of all I am looking forward to the start of our high school hockey season. That team packs in the crowds and there is nothing like it on a Friday night. It's a total blast.

What Else is New

I think I have covered everything but make sure you stop by tomorrow because Holly and I are hosting Monthly Musings and our topics are focused on fall decorating and Halloween. Grab our graphic below and join us back here.  I can't wait. We have such fun with this link up and I think this one is going to really get you in the spirit for fall and Halloween.

Thanks for stopping by for What's Up Wednesday. I am hoping to write more in October, September was not really the month that I thought it was going to be.

See you back here tomorrow for Monthly Musings.

  3. Oh, sorry you have not felt well. I had covid this summer after being vaccinated and boosted. I have read it takes a while before your body will not read a positive test, but there is so much information out there. Just hope you are feeling stronger and better most importantly!

  4. I'm so sorry you have been so sick. That's really tough. I am praying that you get a negative test so you can finally watch some hockey in person this weekend. I am getting the bivalent booster on Friday and I cannot wait. I feel like another round of Covid is coming and I want to be as prepared as I can be.

  6. I am behind on your posts and I just saw your mention of Covid in October. UGH I just feel like this is never going away. I had the original Omicron at Christmas and it took me until the end of January to feel normal again. Labor Day weekend we had a family reunion at the bay and I'd say about 40% got hit with Covid . I too believe the vaccine helps, but my anxiety is keeping me from the booster. I got Vertigo for the first time in my life after getting my second shot in 5/21. Then Covid brought back the veritgo. Such a mess and really hyped up my anxiety!! Glad you are feeling better.
