What's Up Wednesday August 2022

Happy Wednesday Besties! It's time for What's Up Wednesday where I link up with Shaeffer and Shay and talk about all things August! This month was packed full of all the things headed into the last days of summer and I can't wait to share it with you. Let's talk about August.

What We're Eating This Week

We got home late from a hockey tournament Sunday night so I am a little behind on my meal planning. I also had to push back our Butcher Box until this week so I am not really sure when it will arrive and that is impacting meal planning a bit. Here is what I know we will have this week.

Monday-Pancakes, bacon and mixed berries

Tuesday-Roasted shrimp, easy risotto mix, green beans

Wednesday-Tacos, salad, black beans

Thursday-Maybe burgers and dogs, haven't gotten that far yet.

Friday-Take out of some kind. Probably District Taco because I reached the "Habanero status" and I have a huge credit. I shudder how much money we have probably spent at District Taco to warrant the big credit I got.

I'm Reminiscing About

Running Daddy and I were sitting on the beach when we heard that Olivia Newton-John passed away from cancer. We were both sad. Running Daddy is a big Xanadu fan and I played Sandy in Grease in high school. You can read a little more about that here

Sure, with back to school I am also reminiscing about when Hockey Guy was younger, but honestly because he only has two more years of high school I am so trying to live in the moment. Besties, living in the moment is not the easiest thing for me but it is Good for me.

What I'm Loving

Honestly, there are a lot of things in this season of life for me that are very difficult right now, multiple things. I am truly loving that even when things are hard I have three boys (Running Daddy, Hockey Guy and Stormy) that love me so much for exactly who I am and lift me up. Things would be so hard without them and I never take for granted their love.

I am also loving hockey season being back. Hockey Guy skated every month this year so far but in June. Our travel team is about 80% the same kids and families and I am so loving normal travel parents. Travel sports parents can be an interesting breed and I am loving people around us who are their for our kids and not living through our kids.

What We've Been Up To

Sandwiched around our dreamy vacation to Hilton Head is a heck of a lot of work in August. I am going to be going non-stop from now until the election.

We probably had one of the Best vacation weeks yet. We looked at three schools on the way to Hilton Head and back. This was really informative and is helping to shape what the list should look like.

We had amazing meals including at Home Team in Charleston. I also made a quick stop into Sewing Down South and it is such a beautiful store. Charleston is such an amazing city and I cannot wait to go back soon.

Hockey Guy started travel hockey and we had a tournament this past weekend. We got to see my mom on the way to the tournament and take her to lunch. During one of the breaks we had lunch in Belmar and let the boys explore a little.

Hockey Guy also started classes this week and has some interesting courses and opportunities this year. I am living in the moment and just love being on this journey with him.

What I'm Dreading

I really need to clean out some closets, donate some clothes and post some things on Ebay. It needs to be done, but I am not one of those people who just loves to purge things. I hate the clutter and we have two much of it but I also hate the cleaning out process.

What I'm Working On

Between now and the election is a heck of a lot of work. It's the nature of the beast and I just need to push through until then.

I am also working on clearing out some clutter, weeding out some clothes and trying to get our house a little more organized. I think Hockey Guy's clothes are pretty well weeded out but mine need some help.

I am also working on my morning and evening routine now that school is back in session. We really need to leave for school by 7:20 am to get there with traffic. School isn't that far but it is off the highway and also off of a very busy main road. As far as the evening goes, I just need to work on taking out my contacts earlier and getting a jump start on my evening skincare routine. Sometimes I wait until late to start washing my face and I end up getting to bed too late.

What I'm Excited About

I am excited about hockey season, nothing brings me more pure Joy than to see Hockey Guy skate. I can't wait for opening night of the high school season.

What I'm Watching/Reading

Unfortunately, I am reading my to do lists! Nothing to recommend here.

I finished watching The Summer I Turned Pretty earlier this month and really enjoyed it. Hoping this will get another season as I understand this is based on a series of books.

I am also fully engrossed in Southern Charm. I didn't expect this to be as Good a season as it has turned out to be. To sum up the season so far,  Running Daddy and I are way over Shep, it was so painful to watch Taylor cry. It is literally like watching a Disney princess cry. We are also Team Craig in all the fights and totally team Paige. Although Naomi is having some decent moments this season.

While I am picking Bravo teams, I think you all know by now I am a Slutton when it comes to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I also think we are seeing exactly who Kyle is this season and that Garcelle is becoming the queen of Beverly Hills.

I have been getting caught up on the final season of Chesapeake Shores on the nights the boys have hockey. Sunday nights are busy and I don't always get a chance to watch it live. I have really loved the way this series has developed and I love all of the characters.

What I'm Listening To

A few weeks ago I binged the Fed Up podcast hosted by one of my faves Casey Wilson. This was fascinating and I could not get enough. I sort of remember when this war of words happened via social media a few years ago, but this podcast is really fascinating. Check it out Besties.

I have also been listening to a lot of music playlists lately. I am loving some of the Coastal Grandma and Nancy Meyers movie playlists. I also told Running Daddy the other day that I need to listen to more Stevie Wonder.

What I'm Wearing

For the most part, I am not wearing anything new but I did get these super cute cargos for the transition of seasons. I wore them all last weekend as they were Good for going from the ice rink to the outside. The dark galaxy goes great with some summer brights and can blend easily with fall hues.  I think they will be a staple of my early fall wardrobe.

What I'm Doing This Weekend

We don't have any real Labor Day weekend plans but I am hoping just to chill and get some things done this weekend. I am hoping to go to Barre 3 and church this weekend to feed my soul. I am also hoping to do some really Good cooking too.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month

While I know I can technically have one right now, I am looking forward to my first pumpkin spice latte of the season. Running Daddy broke the seal over the weekend and had pumpkin spice coffee at Wawa while we were away for a hockey tournament. I don't put a certain date on a pumpkin spice coffee or latte, I really go by the weather. I know on a certain day, when the weather is right that it will be time to have a pumpkin spice latte. It usually happens in September.

What Else is New

I think I have covered everything for August. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Starting back to school this week has been tough; we have to be on the road by 6:35 for his 7 am start time and the first week of school always leads to extra traffic plus all three local towns that we drive through are doing road construction to add to the fun. Luckily we haven't been delayed at all and he's made it on time both days. Hopefully he can get a parking pass on campus soon and then he'll be driving himself!
