What's Up Wednesday: April 2022

Hey there Besties. Wow, April flew by. March felt so long but April was just glorious and went so fast. As we are at the last Wednesday of April, I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday. I cannot wait to share with you how delightful April was.

What We're Eating This Week

This week has the end of lacrosse, a mom's club reception and hockey tryouts so I don't have a true meal plan this week. I did make ribs on Sunday night because Hockey Guy has been asking for them. They were so Good! I served it with an Everything But The Bagel salad from Wegman's.

Monday night I made some turkey pizza meatballs and served them with pizza sauce and broccoli.

I also made a crustless quiche to have on hand. The Best thing about a quiche is that you can eat it at any time of the day. This was also a Good way to use up some leftover bacon and the end of the farm fresh eggs we bought last week.

As for what we are eating the balance of the week, I am going to wing it a little bit. We have a house full of food as I like to say, so every once in a while it is ok to not have a meal plan.

What I'm Reminiscing About

I have been thinking a lot about the lockdown months of 2020 lately. I mean, we probably all are. While I know that strains of COVID are out there still, I do feel like things are as normal as they could probably be right now.

In Washington, we have something called Congressional recess. It is the time when members of Congress go back to the district and work there. What it means for the rest of the town when we are not in a pandemic, is that it gives you a little room to breathe, take time off, catch up on work and also catch up with people. Last week I had a lovely lunch with a dear friend that I had not seen in a while. It actually felt almost normal and it was the first normal Congressional recess in many years. I didn't realize how much I missed all of that until last week.

What I'm Loving

I have two new beauty products I am really loving lately. The first is the Tinted Moisturizer Blush from Laura Mercier and the other is the Wonder Hydrating and Soothing Mask from Ever.

I never thought I would be a cream blush person until I was sent the new Tinted Moisturizer Blush from Laura Mercier. Laura Mercier is known for their tinted moisturizer and they have now created a blush in a similar format. I was sent two colors to try, Provence with a soft pink nude and Coastline which is a cappuccino bronze color.  I think they are both pretty universal.

The application took a day or two to get the hang of, but I found that application to the apples of my cheeks and then blended with a flat brush worked the Best. The result is a soft, natural and very airbrushed look that lasts all day. I would go easy with Coastline and find Provence buildable. They are also really Good when you just want a little color over sunscreen

Masks are also really big in the beauty biz right now and I am trying to get Better at using masks. Ever has a new mask called Wonder and it is a hydrating and soothing mask. Wonder is infused with hyaluronic acid and rose water and feels very spa like. You can leave on for 10 minutes but I have heard you can also use as a sleeping mask. I am going to give that a try this week.

These are two products I a loving right now.

What We've Been Up To

Oh April was filled with so many fun things. My birthday was the first week and we had a delightful dinner at Landini Brothers in Old Town Alexandria. This place has been here forever and truly never disappoints.

We also had Holy Week and Easter, which is a very special time in our house.  We also had the return of Easter at our house and the weather decided to cooperate.

We also had a lacrosse tournament in Virginia Beach. Since I had a bunch of use or lose days I needed to take, we also went to the tournament and shared a house with some friends. It was great to watch the team on the road, but the Best part was the fun and fellowship they shared. There is something special about watching two teams of high school boy lacrosse players in a prayer circle together.

Running Daddy and I also went to the Mount Vernon garden and flower sale this weekend. We left with a fig tree that Running Daddy picked out. It's pretty cool to have a fig tree that is local to the Mount Vernon area.  I hope we don't kill it!

What I'm Dreading

I am dreading all of the weeding I still need to finish. I was out there for a Good part of Sunday and still have more to do.

What I'm Working On

One thing I am working on is going through all of Hockey Guy's clothes that do not fit. There is a lot of them and those clothes need to be thinned out.

I am also still working to clear a lot of clutter out of our house. This is going slowly but spring cleaning is happening.

I am also trying to plan my outfits on a weekly basis every Sunday night. With going back to the office on a regular basis, I think it would be helpful to have my outfits written out in my planning.  Hoping that it makes my mornings go smoother.

I am also working on getting our yard and patio in shape for the season. The patio is starting to look really Good. I decided to skip a true vegetable garden this year and just do patio tomato plants and I think I am really going to like this option.

What I'm Excited About

I am definitely excited about spring. It took a long time to get here this year but it is so nice out. I truly feel a lift in my spirits and my flowers and plants give me true Joy

What I'm Watching/Reading

For reading, I am mostly reading a lot of articles on gardening these days. We have a lot of new plants in the yard and I am trying to learn as much as I can about them.

Here is what I have been watching:
-Real Housewives of NJ
-Bad Vegan
-College lacrosse
-The Crown (we are trying to catch up again)

What I'm Listening To

Mostly listening to podcasts right now. Those include:
-Bitch Sesh
-Make It Nice with Dorinda Medley (new!)
-Literally with Rob Lowe
-Two Judgey Girls
-Two T's in a Pod

What I'm Wearing

I am mostly shopping in my closet these days and adding in accessories. I have a lot of Good spring options and just adding the accessories to keep things fresh.

What I'm Doing This Weekend

First, hopefully, I am getting some rest. I could definitely use some additional sleep right now.

We also have a party to go to that I am really looking forward to. It will be fun to get together and feel like things are hopefully settling into some sense of normalcy.

I am also hoping the weather can cooperate for some additional gardening.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

Running Daddy has a birthday and we are hoping to finally celebrate him in style.

We are also attending the Mount Vernon Wine Festival for the first time since before the pandemic. We have a table of great friends and I am looking forward to having a table this time.
