Monthly Musings October 2021-Fall Fun and Traditions

Hey Hey Besties! I don't know about you but I blinked and it became the last Thursday in October. What a delightful month! Speaking of delightful, today I am hosting my monthly link up with Holly and we are getting together with some other wonderful writers sharing all of our Fall Fun and Traditions. Join me as I share all the fall fun.

1. What are your Halloween traditions?

Well, the last few years it seems like the tradition has been that we have had a late hockey game, including this year.

Our main tradition is that we decorate our house and build a spooky walk with our neighbors next door. We actually set up a table on the driveway and hand out candy from there. It's a fun couple of hours.

2. Favorite fall activities

One of my favorite fall activities is the 5K race that Running Daddy co-founded. I was so happy that he was finally able to be a participant and not the race director this year. He came in second overall and won his age group.

Good Better Best being a mile sponsor brings me Joy.

3. Favorite fall recipe

My butternut squash soup with pear is not only one of my favorite fall recipes, it is one of the Best things I make. The pear, instead of apple, give it an unexpected flavor. I highly recommend you try my twist on this soup.

I think I may make this on Saturday night for dinner. This is really Good with a full bodied chardonnay.

4. What beverage makes you think of fall

I do like a pumpkin spice latte, but usually only drink one or two a season due to the calories. I also like the pumpkin spice coffee at Wawa and that is a lighter option.

Under the adult beverage topic, I do like a warm cider with some spiced rum. I also discovered a hot toddy mix at our local wine store and do like that before bed sometimes.  Aside, the hot toddy was very chic on Beverly Hills Housewives this season.

5. Favorite fall fashion staples

I always need a Good pair of jeans and love the Judy Blue ones that I have talked about a lot over the last few weeks.

I also love a Good puffer vest. I think they are great for running errands and as a light layer.  I have this one by J Crew Factory in navy.

I bought a small--true to size

6. Do you decorate for fall? Halloween? Both?

Inside I decorate for fall so that I can only decorate once and then leave up my decorations for a longer time. Earlier this week I shared some easy fall decorating tips

Outside I usually add in some mums by the front door. I leave the major outside Halloween decorating to Running Daddy and Hockey Guy.

7. Bonfire? Corn maze? or Hayride?

I love a Good bonfire or firepit. I am not sure I have actually really been in a corn maze. It has been many years since I have been on a hayride but I do like them. I think the last one I have been on was with Hockey Guy when he was in first grade and we took a hayride/tractor ride at an apple farm I love in New England.

8. Apple pie or apple cider?

I actually prefer apple cider to apple pie. I also can't really eat pie because I am gluten free.

9. Favorite type of apple?

My favorite apple is a McIntosh, they smell and taste like fall. Running Daddy doesn't love them because they are a little too soft. I typically buy the Honeycrisps or Pink Lady variety as they are more popular in my house.

10. What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

Typically Running Daddy does the Turkey Trot and then we have dinner with family. Not sure what this year will look like.

  1. I wrote about my favourite butternut squash soup with pears too! Mine has curry as the main spice though instead of nutmeg and cinnamon. You are right that it is delicious!
