What's Up Wednesday--July 2020

Hey Besties. Here we are at the end of July. For the first start of the pandemic it felt like the months crawled, now it seems like the weeks are flying by. We are still playing it safe but trying to find glimpses of normalcy.

It's the last Wednesday of the month and I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday. Settle in to find out what we have been up to this month. July flew by in a flash.

What We're Eating This Week

I have a feeling that this week is going to be a little nutty workwise, so I think we are going to have to keep dinners simple.

Monday-chicken and vegetable stir fry with brown jasmine rice

Tuesday-take out Tuesday.  We have been doing this since the pandemic started to help the local restaurant industry.

Wednesday-no sure what we are going to do , this night as we needed to make an appointment at the Apple Store.

Thursday-maybe baked chicken tacos, maybe homemade gluten free pizza

Friday-hopefully take out at the pool

What I am Reminiscing About

Honestly, summer of the past when life was "normal". I don't think this summer is what any of us had hoped and dreamed it would be. I am thinking about all of the fun summer experiences Hockey Guy had at camps in the past, including his hockey camp that was cancelled for this year. This has really been a highlight of the whole year.

Also with him headed to high school this fall, I am also reminicing about all the camps he went to in the summer at the high school he is attending. He went from being a cute little kid with a buzz cut at summer camp to a full fledged high schooler.

What I am Loving

I am totally loving how beautiful the flowers we put in this year are coming in.  When I am working and need to take a break to clear my mind I just take a walk and check you my plants. Even when it is hot out, a few minutes in the yard is a Good mental break.

On the fashion side, I am loving the Baby Boss Tote that just launched this month from Stella & Dot.

This super room and stylish tote, is one of my favorite bags of all time. Perfect with an outer pocket for you your keys, phone or mask. You also get your choice of removable strap. I chose the navy and read and it gives it a total Gucci vibe without the high end price tag. All the style at a really Good price point...yes please!

For food, I am loving this easy, caprese chicken that I made a couple of weeks ago.

Fast, healthy and you probably have all of the ingredients in your kitchen to make. This is totally staying on our dinner rotation for a while.

What We've Been Up To

Considering you are not supposed to go anywhere, we are still not up to much. The highlight lately is that we are able to go to the pool with some safety restrictions. It is so Good to see people and just feel a little normal on a Friday night.

What I am Dreading

Honestly, I am dreading the thought that the Governor could still shut our school down. We are in a hybrid model of two days in at half capacity and two days at home. I feel like all of the safety measures are in place but I know the Governor could just shut us down at any time, even though we are a private Catholic school.

I am also dreading that they will cancel hockey season. We are currently trying to find other options because our regular hockey club looks like they may not launch this season. Not sure what will happen with high school hockey either. Just crossing my fingers.

Everyone, please wear a mask. Practice social distancing and wash your hands. It's not that hard and if you do we can all get back to our lives sooner.

I seriously feel like this some days in my head.

What I am Working on

While it is summer and I am still mostly working from home, I am kind of swimming in work. The summers for my job can really busy, especially in a campaign year. I am just trying to work my to do list one thing at a time and take time to really plan my days.

I am also working hard on all of the school forms. With Hockey Guy starting a new school this fall, there are a lot of forms. There are also books to buy, uniforms to purchase and then figuring out the whole carpool thing with a hybrid model of schooling based on alphabet.

What I am Excited About

I mean can we really really that excited about anything? How about hopeful? Let's go with hopeful as so much can change on a dime in this pandemic world.

I am hopeful about Hockey Guy being able to go into a classroom setting on a regular basis, even for just the first quarter. He is one of those kids who does Better with consistency and in a classroom setting. I have every confidence in the world that every safety measure is being taken at his school.

What I am Watching/ Reading

For reading, I just finally finished Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. I started it right after our trip to Memphis..in December. I have just been too busy to read lately but I am looking forward to a few books for our trip in a few weeks.

We have been watching a lot of our favorites including Million Dollar Listing LA and Housewives. For the record...I am Team Denise and everyone is finally seeing Kyle's true colors.

We also really got into Dirty John Betty Broderick which is one of the Best series I have ever seen on tv.

And of course, it is Hallmark Christmas in July. We need this now more than ever.

What I am Listening to

I am listening to all my regular podcasts including Bitch Sesh. I am so bummed because we were supposed to go see Casey and Danielle for the third year in a row this Friday night but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. It is literally one of the highlights of my summer if not my year.

Watch Casey Wilson & Danielle Schneider's Housewives Taglines ...

I have also been listening to Faith Hill radio during the work week which is a nice blend of country and contemporary Christian music.

What I am Wearing

While we all know the ugly sandal is so on trend this year, but it is typically not me. Enter the Jack Rogers Georgica Cork Sandal

It has all of the comfort of an ugly sandal with the styling of fun preppy sandal. Since these arrive about 10 days ago, they are pretty much all I wear.

I have also been wearing this sweet tee that my friend sent me. It is the perfect tie dye and of course More Joy

What I am Doing This Weekend

Hockey Guy has hockey try outs and it will be the first time we have seen him on the ice since February. It will be so Good to be back in a rink.

I am also going to try to get some sleep. I so need some sleep.

What I am Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to so many fun things in August including Hockey Guy's birthday.

We also have a trip planned. We will basically be doing what we go at home which is to stay safe, lay low and get take out. We will just be doing this in a beach house.

I am also looking forward to Hockey Guy's first day of high school. It won't look like what we thought it would but it is a big change and he is really excited about it.

I think I have covered everything.

  1. Your flowers are beautiful!! Hydrangeas are my favorite 😊 and I'm at a Catholic school too in NC and we are fully open, but with restrictions. It's interesting how different states are handling it so differently!

    1. Our former Catholic elementary school is fully open and it has two buildings so I think it is easier. High school is two days in, two days virtual. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Lauren!

  2. Thanks for the reminder about tomorrow! I have my post all written up but wanted to try adding in a few photos that I completely forgot about. Your flowers are gorgeous! My blue hydrangea is blooming for the first time ever in like 16 years (it never once flowered after the year we planed it!) and I keep checking on it's progress every single day. We're in the middle of a giant heatwave and I am so afraid they're going to die before I really see them in bloom.

    1. The hydrangeas can be a little tricky. My one out back is not flowering at all but that one out front is so happy! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.

  3. I feel your words so much- feel the exact same way- hard to be excited about anything. Anyway, thinking positively- our school board votes on Thursday night- fingers crossed. Your hydrangeas are beautiful- it really is one of the positives of this year- the hydrangeas are growing like wild!

  4. Hydrangeas are one of my all time favorite flowers. The whole school situation is a mess all over the country. I'm so incredibly grateful that I don't have school aged children. I really feel for parents (and kids) during this whole thing. Have a great week. XO

    1. Thanks Lisa. I am just so grateful Hockey Guy is older and pretty self sufficient. It must be so hard for those with littles.

  5. Ahhhh -- I didn't know you were the other person hosting the monthly musings with Holly. I'll be joining in for the first time!

    Your hydrangeas are beautiful!

And our schools haven't announced yet what they're going to do so I'm just hoping and praying it's a good choice -- however, that is defined day to day. Ha! And hoping for some sense of normalcy for our kids...
