Friday Favorites-Statement Earrings, Lance Armstrong, Best Song for Right Now, Sparkling Greyhound, and a Landscaping Project

Heather Stillufsen Hello June | Rose hill, Cute illustration ...

Oh Besties, what a week. This week has seen so many highs and lows. We had our graduation ceremony in person with all kinds of safety restrictions and it was so Good to see everyone.  I also watched the frustration in our country and even in my own city come to a dramatic head this week. I know as a middle class, white woman I will never fully understand this pain, but I am trying and I am teaching in our own home.

I am taking a moment, to take a breath and find some Joy in the week as I do every Friday by linking up with ErikaAndreaNarci  with Friday Favorites.

1)  Love Hoops

I bought these Love hoops when they went on sale a few weeks ago. I typically have not been wearing large earrings over the last few years, but I am getting back into this trend. I so love these and they seemed totally the message I wanted to send this week. We all need a little more love and fashion can make a statement and send a message. They also come in gold

2) LANCE

VIDEO: Trailer for ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary on Lance Armstrong ...

Good heavens ESPN produces some amazing programming. On the heels of The Last Dance, ESPN brought us the two part documentary on Lance Armstrong. At the height of his career, Running Daddy and I were big fans of Lance Armstrong. We were even behind him in the security line at a big cancer benefit many years ago.

Then we learned the truth. For me, it has never been about the doping with Lance, it was always about how he treated people who tried to tell the truth. I went into this documentary with an open mind. It was interesting to watch this with Hockey Guy as he only really knew about the cheating scandal, he didn't really know about the cancer.  I still came away with the same feelings about Lance Armstrong that I had in the beginning, but I hope ESPN will continue to provide really Good content like they have been lately.

If you have not watched this you should check it out and watch it with your kids. It is a Good lesson in how celebrities and sports heroes are not always what they seem to be. In life, whether you are a celebrity or no, the truth always eventually catches up with you.

3) Give This World Back to God

This is not the first time that this song has appeared on this space and it will probably not be the last. It is just a song I always come back to when there is pain in the world. The lyrics and the video is so spot on. I am praying so hard for our country for the pain from Minneapolis and also for the COVID 19 virus which is still out there.

4) Sparkling Greyhound/Mocktail

I don't have a photo of this but I am always trying to come up with ways to have a fun cocktail or mocktail without all of the calories. The idea for a lower calorie Greyhound came to me when I picked out our fruit and vegetable box on Saturday.  They were kind enough to give me a complimentary jug of organic grapefruit juice.

Saturday night I did a skinny Greyhound by combining a small shot of Belvedere vodka, soda water from our Sodastream and then topped it with a little of the grapefruit juice. During the week I omitted the vodka and just did the soda water and juice for a different refresher during the day.

If you wanted to make a skinny Salty Dog, just salt the rim!

5) Landscaping Project

Like all of us, we have some problem areas in our yard. This area above was one of them. It pools some water when it rains. We move an azalea there and it died. It is a total sore spot in the yard.

I did a little research and found some plants that like rain and also bought some pea gravel. Hockey guy is very Good at edging so he dug out the dead bush and then did the edging on the area.  Hopefully the pea gravel will hep with the drainage and we will have some plants popping up even more soon.

It is actually raining hard right now so it will be Good to see how this area stands up to the water. In addition, I do actually like the way it looks too.

This is what I have for this Friday. I am looking forward to a little down time this weekend and hopefully finishing all of our landscaping projects so that we can enjoy the fruits of our labor all summer.
