Friday Favorites: Winter Skin Edition

The above beautiful art by Heather Stillufsen pretty much sums up the weather around here lately and I know that it is way worse in other parts of the country. Today I am talking winter skin as I link up with ErikaAndreaNarci and The Blended Blog for my weekly list of Friday Favorites.
One of the things that goes along with some of my health challenges is that I make very little moisture in my body. I also have super sensitive skin and some eczema from time to time. These are the products that I have found the Best for my winter skin right now.

Face

Ultra Facial Cleanser
Ultra Facial Lotion
Ultra Facial Cream

Hockey Guy and I both are using the Kiehl's Ultra collection right now. I have been using it for about two to three years and it has been a Good product for me. As sensitive as my skin is, Hockey Guy's skin may be even more sensitive. I pretty much use the Ultra Facial Lotion all year long.  When the weather gets colder I switch to the Ultra Facial Cream at night with the Ultra Facial Cleanser twice per day. Hockey Guy tries to follow the same regimen but it can be hard when you are in middle school to remember all of this.

Body

So this is where I really get the itchy skin in the winter. I really have to be careful of the products I use or I am just miserable. The Method Pure Naked body washes have really clean ingredients and don't make me itch. They also have some really fun scents so it is like using a fun body wash but with no of the bad stuff in it. Hockey Guy and I area currently sharing the Olive Leaf version and we really like it.

I also use the OGX Argan Oil Body Lotion all year long. It has made an appearance in Friday Favorites before and it continues to work really well for me. It is light and absorbs really well, but helps fight the itch. The light scent is fresh for all day.

When my legs get super itchy, and they do get itchier than other parts of my body for some reason, I will add in some Eucerin Eczema Relief Lotion. I cannot use it all the time but it is really Good for spot treatments.

Lips

This is where I really struggle. Because of my health situation I literally make no saliva without medication. This means that my lips are really dry all year long. I have tried almost every type of lip balm over the years and always seem to come back to two old stand bys.  Rosebud Salve and Aquaphor are the two that I always come back to. I give a little bit of a nudge to Rosebud Salve because I think it works slightly Better . I also like the way it smells and I feel like it gives your lips a healthy rosy look. The downside is that that tin can be a little hard to open but you can also find it now in a tube.  The plus to Aquaphor is that you can basically find it anywhere.

Hands

Pardon the pun, but these two hand lotions are the Best. The L'Occitane and Crabtree & Evelyn hand lotions are very similar. They are very emollient but not greasy. I typically put them on as the last thing I do before I leave the house in the morning, especially if I am putting on my gloves before driving.

I hope these Friday Favorites help your winter skin. If you have any favorite winter skin products, be sure to leave them in the comments below. I am always on the hunt for Good product!

Have the Best weekend!

  1. I still get winter dry skin here in Texas, but I can't imagine how bad it would be in a colder climate. Thanks for all the great products. I love Kiehl's products - such great quality. I will have to try the argan lotion. I love their shampoo. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Tanya - The Other Side of the Road

  6. Thanks for the suggestions! Indiana winters + hypothyroidism is a combination that produces really dry skin. Plus, my skin is really sensitive as well, so a lot of products bother me.

  7. Thank you for the wonderful tips. My skin gets so dry in winter. Then I went to visit my sister in Florida. Now I know how all of those Southern belles have such great skin - they live year round in warm, moist air.
