What's Up Wednesday: All About October 2018

Wow October. What a month. It seems like it took forever for the fall weather to get here but it is finally here. Better late than never.  Since it is the last Wednesday of the month, otherwise known as Halloween, I am linking up with MelShaeffer, and Shay to talk about what I have been up to in October.

What We're Eating This Week

Monday-Smoked paprika chicken breasts, roasted sweet potatoes and salad.

Tuesday-Sausage, fingerling potatoes, and roasted vegetable sheet pan meal.

Wednesday-It's Halloween, so probably a sandwich or maybe leftover lasagna.

Thursday-Chicken tostadas, black beans, salad.

Friday-Pizza night.

What I Am Reminiscing About

One of the Best nights ever

This is probably one of my favorite moments ever. When Hockey Guy was four we went to Disney for the first time. We were there in October and also attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We surprised Hockey Guy with all of this and packed his Woody the Cowboy costume, but he wanted to wear his Mickey ears to the party instead of the cowboy hat. Pretty much everyone stopped us to tell us how cute he was....cause he is. One of the cast members came up to him and asked for his autograph. We snapped this photo during that moment. This photo gives me pure Joy.

What I am Loving

One of the things I am really loving are lounge bras. Now that the weather has turned cooler, I love to come home and put on my sweats and lately I have been loving a Good lounge bra. It just adds to the comfort of the sweats to have a lounge bra on and they are way more comfortable than chilling in a sports bra. I grabbed a few Skinny Girl ones at Marshall's a few weeks ago but I really like the ones by Yummie. I have the one below in black. I chose a medium in the Skinny Girl one and then a S/M in Yummie.

I am also loving the pumpkin spice everything season. I mentioned on Friday that I had my first pumpkin spice latte of the season. I ended up getting one from Peet's and really loved it. I found it was less sweet than the Starbucks one. Typically I ask them to go light on the syrup anyway. I think I may have one today. Should I do Peet's again or Starbucks?

I am also really loving my hair. I cut off quite a bit of my hair this month and I think it really looks Better at this length.

What We Have Been Up To

October is always so busy for us. You too?  We are in the full swing of hockey season and heading to practices and games on the weekend.

Running Daddy did his 36th marathon this weekend (yes, you read that correctly) when he did the Marine Corp Marathon this weekend. His time was Good, but he is still trying to qualify for the Boston marathon again soon.

Speaking of races, we were super busy this month helping with the 5K race at Hockey Guy's school that Running Daddy helped to found a few years ago. It's the Best day. Everyone we know is either running or cheering at the race. Guess who was a sponsor again this year?

Running Daddy's sister and her kids come down every year and run it too!

The Best part of the day was when Hockey Guy got to be the school mascot. He was really in character all day. Only one little kid got scared.

Who's that Hawk?

What I am Dreading?

I am going to be really honest with you. I am dreading...the hockey smell. Any of you hockey moms will know what I am talking about. Apparently the wrestling smell is quite close to this. It is such a unique smell and seems to be getting worse this year.

On Sunday while Running Daddy was running the marathon, I took Hockey Guy to his game about an hour away. On the drive home, I had to pop the sunroof a little for the ventilation, because...hockey smell. Heated seats, heater on, sunroof popped.

I love to watch him skate and he is even Better this year than last but I dread that drive home with that stink.

What I am Working on

I am working on a whole lotta work. We are less than a week away from the elections and I am crazy busy. Getting campaign checks out, compliance reports, board reports and preparing for next election cycle already. Hopefully things will calm down a little and I can really sit and plan things.

Just a reminder, no matter what your political persuasion, please make sure you go out and vote on Tuesday!

I am also really working on helping to build up my self confidence lately. I am totally fine, but I have a tendency to put a lot of pressure on myself. A totally self-inflicted wound. I have to keep reminding myself that I am Better than I give myself credit for, that I have a lot of people who support me and that I am now surrounded by Good people.

What I am Excited About

I am excited about late fall and starting the holiday season. Running Daddy and I are so happy this time of year is upon us. I am hoping we are going to start making some holiday plans this weekend.

I am also excited for Halloween tonight. Running Daddy and Hockey Guy build a Spooky Walk with our neighbors that is so fun. I just love seeing all the kids come by the house to get candy in their costumes.

I am also excited the Red Sox won the World Series. It has given me such Joy to watch them win.

What I am Watching/Reading

Honestly I am not reading anything at the moment besides election polls and other work related materials. I received my November Southern Living this weekend and I am hoping to bust out that bad boy of holiday Goodness this weekend.

I am so loving the Real Housewives of Dallas this season. It has come a long way since season one.

But mostly, it's all Hallmark Channel all the time. We just finished up the Harvest Love movies and the Countdown to Christmas started this weekend. Who's excited? ME! I will flip them on early in the morning just to see which one is on.

These movies have a total formula and it's a formula I love. The female characters are typically girl bosses who end up falling for the nice guy who treats her well. When people have misunderstandings, they work it out. So many times these movies have given me comfort when my lupus has been bad, especially about five years ago. Can I tell you a secret? Running Daddy and Hockey Guy have been known to willingly watch them too.

What I am Listening to

Every time Running Daddy and I hear Luke Bryan's Sunrise, Sunset, Repeat we think about our drive down to Hilton Head in August. This song had just come out and it was on the radio a lot as we made our way down to South Carolina. We listen to this song a lot.

I am also very into the Rise podcast by Rachel Hollis. She had a really Good interview this week with Mally Roncal who started Mally Beauty. This interview had a little bit of a lot of things that bring me Joy: business, beauty, QVC and Jesus. Check it out here.

What I'm Wearing

I am finally wearing my fall clothes. Yipeee!

I am loving this skirt from Loft with this shirt from J Crew Factory. I think both of these items will be worn a lot this fall, both together and then with other cute things in my closet. By the way, the shirt is on super sale.

I also grabbed these cute sweaters at J Crew Factory. I really needed to weed out and replace my sweaters this fall. The one with the polka dots I actually bought in a plain grey and plain black.
What I'm Doing This Weekend

Hockey Guy has his big cross country meet and Running Daddy is one of the coaches. We will be heading there on Saturday and luckily this year the meet is in our neighborhood. We will head to hockey for practice only. Mostly I am just hoping to enjoy the fall with no real plans, no work and just hopefully working to get more fall decor going in and outside of our house.

What I am Looking Forward to Next Month

I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. Hockey Guy and Running Daddy will once again do the Turkey Trot and I am looking forward to test running a new dessert.

I am also looking forward to starting my Christmas shopping and picking out special things for those I love. I am hoping to make it to several of the holiday shopping markets this year.

Mostly I am hoping my schedule will slow down a little once we are on the other side of the elections. I need to book some doctor check ups and hoping my schedule will ease up a little until January.

I am also looking forward to settling big time into the Hallmark Channel. #Hallmarkie

What Else is New?

I think I have covered everything. There was so much going on this month.

  1. That Disney story is too precious. We went there for Halloween two years ago and my youngest was Woody too. It was so magical!
