Ten Things
You Didn’t
Know About Me

I have been having such fun linking up with The Blended Blog lately. Today, we are talking Ten Things You Didn't Know About Me.

If you have been around my blog for a little bit, you know that I am a hockey and lacrosse mom, I am from New England, I love fashion and cooking, I love the Hallmark Channel, have lupus and I am gluten free. I really like this topic because it kinda forced me to stop and think of some fun things that maybe my readers and even people I know didn't know about me. Hockey Guy and Running Daddy helped with this list becaues there were a few things I didn't even realize until Running Daddy mentioned them.

One
I have broken my leg...twice...two years in row. Same bone, same leg. I broke my tibia ice skating in kindergarten and missed almost  the entire second half of the year. I then broke my leg again in first grade skiing. Let's just say that you probably won't see me in the winter Olympics any time soon...or ever.

Two
My first job was in a flower shop owned by family friends. I literally did everything from helping with wedding flowers, to stripped the thorns off of roses, to cleaning up the store room. It is why I love flowers to this day and always notice flowers at an event. Flowers bring me Joy.

Three
I am not really sure I have talked about my real job much, but Holly is always trying to encourage me to talk more about my day job. Basically, I have worked in politics my entire adult life, mainly in political fund raising. Political fund raising is a really Good field for women and I have had many amazing opportunities over the years.

I attended every Republican Convention from 1992 to 2012 and both the Republican and Democrat Conventions in 2008 and 2012. In 2016...let's just say I took both off that year! I served as Deputy Finance Director on the Host Committee of the Republican Convention in San Diego. I was also on staff for many years at the national party committees and worked for a member of leadership in the House of Representatives.

I have been in the private sector for the last ten years, working for a major retailer running their political affairs and now work for a major transportation company also running their political affairs but on a much bigger scale.
Four
Speaking of jobs, one of my ultimate fantasy jobs is to be a host on one of the home shopping channels. I would be so Good at it. I can literally talk about anything, from apparel to home decor to electronics!
Five
I am a Good tap dancer. Not Broadway Good, more like Miss America Good. Ok, really more like local pageant talent Good. I have been known to tap dance on demand at parties.

Six
I can't fall asleep unless I am on my left side. I can sleep on my right side and on my back, but I always need to be on my left side to fall asleep.

Seven
I love old movies, especially musicals. Judy Garland is my absolute favorite but I love a Good Doris Day movie too. I am also completely fascinated by the mysterious death of Natalie Wood. A friend told me about the podcast on the subject called Fatal Voyage and I wait every Friday for the next episode to drop.

Eight
My favorite type of food is Low Country cuisine. This is interesting considering I grew up in New England, basically not any where near Low Country. This is one of the things that Running Daddy pointed out when making this list. If there is shrimp grits on a menu (and they are gluten free) that's what I am ordering. Low country boil...yes please. Oyster roast...sign.me.up.

Nine
Speaking of southern street cred, not only have I been to the world famous Flora-Bama Bar, I have been to the Mullet Toss. Believe, me it is something else! You can check out the festivities here

Ten
Ok, I am going to go from one extreme to another. From famous southern dive bar to my fascination with the Royal Family. I love the young Royals, I love the old Royals. I actual minored in British history in college.

I have a solar Queen Elizabeth on my desk who waves and one year for my birthday Running Daddy and Hockey Guy got me that matching corgi.

So here's are ten things you don't know about me...probably. Wonder of many of these were a complete surprise.

  2. I wouldn't say I'm a great tap dancer, as I never danced growing up, but I've taken tap dance classes as an adult and I'm due to start another class tomorrow. It's fun!!

  4. Thank you for encouraging me Holly to talk about my work. I usually stay away from it because this space is my place to create and relax...I also don't want to get political on this space. But you are right that people may be interested in my work stories.
