What's Up Wednesday--February 2018

It's the last Wednesday of the month and the last day of February. That means It's time for What's Up Wednesday with MelShaeffer, and ShayHere's what I have been up to this month.

What We are Eating This Week

Lacrosse season has started and our dinner schedule is very much dictated by those nights. There are some nights that I need to get dinner on the table fast to feed a hungry laxer either before or after practice so that he can ensure all homework is done, get in shower and get to bed at a decent time. Can you guess which nights are practice nights? It may surprise you. Feel free to put your guesses in the comments.

Monday-Baked chicken tacos, black beans, salad

Tuesday-Parmesan roasted shrimp, rice, steamed broccoli

Wednesday-Chicken bruscetta with roasted vegetables

Thursday-Pesto chicken pasta, salad

Friday-Always pizza night
What I am Reminiscing About

With the end of hockey season and the beginning of lacrosse season, I am reminiscing about past teams and how we have met some of the Best kids and parents who have become really Good friends. Hockey Guy has made some Good friends and some of the moms I will be friends with for a long time.

What I am Loving

Barre3-After over a year of attending Barre3, with a little break this fall, I am ready to say I love Barre3. It's the Best exercise I have ever done. I am notoriously lazy and don't really love to work out. Barre3 just speaks to me, there is so much positive talk and focus on pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. Don't kid yourself, this is probably the hardest workout I have ever done, but when I am finished with class, I feel like I can do anything. I have also been attending the Restorative Class on Sunday nights. It's basically getting your butt kicked by candlelight. I can't think of a Better way to end the weekend and start the week.

What We've Been Up To

February is always a busy but fun month. Hockey is winding down, lacrosse is starting up. Both hockey and lacrosse are always cold this time of year, but it's always dry at hockey!

We also had our school auction in February. The theme was Once Upon a Time and it was one that we really struggled with at our table but it all came together. I got my Best Evil Queen on and we even had a real Dory fish...who unfortunately met a very sad fate the morning after. RIP Dory, RIP.

What I am Dreading

I am looking forward to our yard looking Better come springtime but I am dreading all of the clean up I need to do. I really need to dig out a ton of canna lilies from the back yard. While they are very pretty, they have kind of taken over and taken out several other plants. I think I am just going to try to take a few out every weekend as soon as it is nicer out to help dig out these plants and either move them or give away some of the bulbs.

What I am Working On

I am working on a bunch of things and mostly reminding myself that God's plan isn't my plan and that His plan is always Better. I am also working on embracing my true friends and champions and not paying attention to those that really don't have my Best interests at heart. I know who a lot of them are now, Good and not so Good. Luckily I have more champions than fake friends.

What I am Excited About

I am excited about getting back to Barre 3 and what it is helping me with physically and emotionally.

I am also excited about some opportunities on the horizon and hope to be able to share those soon.

I am also excited for hockey playoffs and also for the lacrosse season to start. I especially love lacrosse when the weather is Good

What I am Watching/Reading

Running Daddy and I finished Big Little Lies this month and we totally get why everyone says it is so Good. We talked a lot about this show and both had interesting takes on the final scene.

We are also loving The Bachelor this season. It seems like it is back to its roots this time with the true drama around the connections and not about who can drink more and act crazy. Believe me, there is plenty of drama around Arie and the ladies. I also think there is something big brewing for next week's finale. I did a few recaps of The Bachelor and you can read them here and here.

We also watched some of the Olympics but we were into it less this time than in the past. Team USA ladies winning hockey gold was the Best. I can attest that ladies who play hockey, especially on co-ed teams are amazing.

For reading, I mostly have been reading a lot of business articles. Important but not all that fun!

What I am Listening to

I am really enjoying listening to Lady Antebellum radio on Pandora while I am writing and working. It really helps me get lost in my work and is so soothing. I have also been rocking out a little to some classic Reba McIntyre.

What I am Wearing

The weather is totally crazy around here this winter. Some days I have on Uggs and long underwear and then two days later I have on spring transition outfits.

I am loving this casual outfit I put together and think this will be on repeat once the temps stabilize.

What I am Doing This Weekend

Friday night we are going to chill and watch a movie. Saturday our hockey tournament starts so hopefully we will have a lot hockey this weekend.

What I am Looking Forward to Next Month

I am looking forward to the weather getting Better and things warming up for lacrosse season. I am also looking forward to getting outside and cleaning up our yard. The last week of March is also Holy Week so I am looking forward to gearing up for Easter.

What Else is New

I am enjoying my new devotional app that I am using for Lent called Daughters of the King. It's a really Good way to start my day and seems to be speaking almost directly to me each morning. You can find out more about it in this post from last week.

Bonus Question: Favorite Spring Break Destination

Our spring break is usually around Easter. Any spring break plans are up in the air at the moment but our two favorite spring break destinations are the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas if we are traveling far and the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA if we want to go drivable.

I am always looking for new travel ideas, so please leave me some new vacation locations we should check out this year in the comments below.

Hope you had a Good February...on to March!

  1. Your dinner menu sounds so yummy despite you saying you have to make quick meals! Our busy nights usually consist of Mac and cheese or chicken nuggets-ha!
Can’t wait for the bachelor finale either!
