Friday Favorites: Fireworks, 4th Fashion, Parades and Rib Night

Today I am linking up with ErikaNarci , Andrea and Amanda for Friday favorites and sharing with you the things that I am finding Joy in this week.

1) Pink Skies:

Several nights this week we had the most beautiful pink skies at sundown. This is what vacation is all about, slowing down and stopping to see the beauty in life.

 2) Best Hometown Parade:

The little beach town we stay in has the Best hometown parade. Complete with bikes, bands, WWII veterans, old cars and elected officials. It's so low key that some of our kids even jumped in and walked in the parade for several blocks. It's just the Best time.

This Woody Wagon and this boat is everything!

3) 4th Outfits:

On the 4th of July the weather was very different in the morning for the parade than it was at night for the fireworks. It was crazy hot in the morning and then about 4:45 p.m. when we were in the pool, all of a sudden it looked it was going to storm, but it didn't. The temperature changed and it brought in some Good cool air for the evening.  Here is what I wore for both day and night.

Parade Look- I paired a cute slip dress from Top It Off with my Sperry flip flops and Loft sunglasses. Links to looks below.

Fireworks Look- My classic Vineyard Vines Nantucket red pant teamed with a Merona white t-shirt and my favorite Oka-B shoes.

***Note: Even though I work for Target all opinions are my own

4) Fireworks

You know what brings me Joy? When your child's teacher that they had in kindergarten, and our friend had in first grade, who moved out of state about four years ago is in town and came to spend part the 4th of July with your kids. Her family owns a place in our beach town and Mrs. W., husband and their adorable daughter could be anywhere that night and she chose to spend time with her former students. That is Joy.

Speaking of fireworks, our friends' house was about a half a block from where they shoot off the fireworks on the beach. For a tiny little beach town, they have amazing fireworks that last about a half hour.

5) Rib Night:

I was never much of a rib person. They are kind of messy and I never really liked them, probably because I haven't had Good ones. Wine Gal K is from Missouri and that lady can cook some barbecue. She taught me how to slow cook the ribs in the oven and then finish them on the grill about two years ago.

Last year, before our trip I went to our local hardware store which has a Weber and Big Green Egg showroom in the basement as well as every type of sauce and seasoning you could imagine. Frankly, it's a little overwhelming. Hands down they recommended the Bone Suckin' dry rub.  It's now my go to!

I bought about 10 lbs. of ribs at Costco which ended up being three large racks. To make them manageable, I cut each rack in half. I seasoned the ribs the day before and just let them sit in the refrigerator about 36 hours. The directions say 4 to 8 hours...but 36 is even Better!

I cooked the ribs wrapped in foil in the oven for three hours at three hundred degrees (3 for 3 is how I remember this). When they came out, I let them sit for about 15 minutes just to steam a little bit in the foil. To finish them off, place meat side down on the grill for about five minutes on medium just to crisp them up and let the seasoning brown.

This was all that was left!

We served the sauce on the side and these ribs were a total hit. Even Hockey Guy tried one, he is on a really Good food trying kick, and gave them a thumbs up. Apologies for not getting a Better photo of the finished product.

I hope everyone had the Best 4th of July!

  1. That rib recipe looks great! I am going to have to try this out! Do you get the rib rub at the regular grocery store?

  2. Hi,

I actually get the rub at our local hardware store that has a Weber and Big Green Egg showroom in the basement. If you have a gourmet store or location that specializes in grilling you should be able to get the Bone Suckin' seasoning there and I am sure you can get it online too.

Thanks for taking the time to read Good Better Best and also comment.
