The weather around here is feeling a little like early fall sooner than usual but it could warm up any day. It's the time of year to start putting away the summer clothes and slowly pulling out the early fall items. Here's how I go about getting my wardrobe ready for fall.
Summer Clothes Get Put Away
Being a Northern Girl at heart, as soon as Labor Day hits I stop wearing most of my summer clothing and start to put things away. I try really hard not to wear my strictly summer clothing after Labor Day unless there is really a big heat wave. I also don't wear white after Labor Day. I know it's an old fashioned rule but I just cannot do it. I can't even wear white jeans after Labor Day...I think about it but I just can't do it. My New England fashion habits are hard to break.
Taking Stock
I use this time to take a Good look at my wardrobe. I look at the summer items and decide if I really wore them this summer or is it Best to have them move on. I also look at the fall items that I am taking out of storage and decide if I am really going to wear them this season. If I decide that someone needs to get Joy out of them, I typically have three options for my clothes. My options include: higher end consignment, Thred Up and donate. There are several Good consignment shops near our house and they are pretty low key. They go through your items and just let you know what are the "no thank yous." I really dislike consignment shops that kind of shame or lecture you about items they are not going to take.
For non-designer items, I typically just put in a Thred Up clean out bag. While the return on Thred Up is usually not as high as typical consignment shops, my theory is that I just want things cleaned out and any money I get is just gravy. Who doesn't need any extra $20, $40 or $60 just for cleaning out their closet? You can shop on Thred Up too! They have Good items at the Best prices. Slowly Move in Fall Items/Transition Outfits
As the temperatures start to drop, I slowly pull out items that will work with the weather. It does mean at that at this point in the fall, I feel like I am wearing the same thing over and over again for a couple of weeks.

Stitch Fix
About this time every year, I schedule a few Fixes from Stitch Fix. In fact I have one coming this week. If you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, it is an online styling service where you fill out a style profile and they send you five items. You decide what to keep and just send the rest back. I have had pretty Good luck with Stitch Fix and I have to say that it has completely changed the way I wear my clothing. Basically, I was wearing my clothing way too big before Stitch Fix.
The red jacket, jeans and cardigan above are all from Stitch Fix. I will have to say that many of my wardrobe staples have come from Stitch Fix.
I am looking forward to my Fix later in the week and hope to do a post on my reveal.This should be a Good update as I think my last Fix was in March.

I am doing some shopping this fall to help fill in the gaps in my wardrobe and find the Best pieces for fall. I have been trying hard lately to buy fewer, Better pieces for my closet. I did a little Nordstrom Anniversary sale shopping, I always shop at Target for trendy pieces and still loving what Loft it putting out this year.
